Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are placed and stored on your computer by the websites that you visit, which are sent back to the same websites during your subsequent visits. "Third-party" cookies are programmed by a different website from the one you are visiting. This occurs because there can be certain elements on any website (images, maps, sounds, specific links to the web pages of other dominions, etc.) embedded on servers different from those of the sites you are visiting.

Types of cookies

There are different categories of cookies, based on their characteristics and use.

Technical cookies. Technical cookies are used for the sole aim of "carrying out the transmission of communication on an electronic communications network, or, in only the narrowest measure necessary, to the service provider of a company which was explicitly requested for information by a subscriber or by a user, in order to carry out that service" (see item 122, comma 2 of the Code). These cookies are not used for any other aims and are usually installed directly by the data processor or controller. They can be divided into navigation or session cookies, which guarantee the normal navigation and use of the website; cookie analytics, which are assimilated to technical cookies when used directly by the data controller to collect consolidated information on the number of users and how they are visiting the site; and functional cookies, which allow users to navigate according to a series of selected criteria in order to improve the services offered to them. The user's prior consent is not required to install these cookies, whereas it is required that an informative report be provided according to item 13 of the Code. When only those devices are used, the data processor can provide this report in whatever way he/she deems most suitable.

Profiling cookies. Profiling cookies are intended to create user profiles, and are used with the aim of sending advertising messages which are consistent with the preferences manifested by the user while he/she navigates online. Due to the particularly invasive nature which these devices can have regarding the user's private life, European and Italian law foresee that the user must be adequately informed on their use and must express his/her consent. This is referred to in item 122 of the Code, in which it is foreseen that "storage of information on the end device of a contracting party or user or access to information which has already been stored are allowed only on the condition that the contracting party or user has expressed his/her consent, after having been informed through simplified methods according to item 13, comma 3" (item 122, coma 1, of the Code). This site (http://www.tattoolifemagazine.com/concurso/) does not use profiling cookies.

Cookies analytics

This site (www.tattoolifemagazine.com/concurso/) also uses components transmitted by Google Analytics, a Google, Inc. ("Google") service which provides web traffic analysis. These cookies are used with the sole aim of monitoring and improving the website's performance. For more information, please go to the following link: www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/

Users may choose to disable the Google Analytics operation by installing the opt-out component, which is provided by Google, on their browsers. If you wish to deactivate the Google Analytics operation, please go to the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Cookies duration period

Some cookies (session cookies) only remain active until the browser has been closed, or until the user has logged out. Other cookies "survive" after the browser has been closed, and are also available during the user's subsequent visits. These cookies are known as persistent cookies, and their duration is established by the server when they are created. In some cases there is a deadline, and in other cases the duration is unlimited.

Managing cookies

Users can decide whether to accept cookies or not by using the default settings on their browsers.

Please note: the optimum use of a website can be compromised by the total or partial disabling of technical cookies.

Disabling "third party" cookies does not in any way jeopardize one's ability to navigate.

The setting can be defined specifically for different websites and applications. Furthermore, browsers allow users to define different settings for "first-party" cookies and for "third-party" cookies. For example, in Firefox, one can access a control panel from the Tools>Options>Privacy menu and specify whether to accept the different kinds of cookies or not, and remove them if so desired. Details on how to set rules for managing cookies on one's browser can be found online. For example, here are several links regarding the main browsers:
